MetroFactor FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

MetroFactor FAQ

These are questions often asked by email and online about our racing group and its organization. As questions increase and come forth we will add them to this group.

Common Questions About MetroFactor

Q. Are you a league, or do you belong to a league?

A. If you count belonging to an organized group, yes. MetroFactor started in the latter part of 2008. After practising and driving together for a long time, a group of us decided to get orgainzed and have regular activities. Our group is relatively small at the moment. We enjoy practising together at random times. Most racing is done with other leagues/groups online, although we do run some test races from time to time.

Q. What's with the locked in cockpit view?

A. You don't drive a real car sitting on the hood, or sitting on the roof. It's only a game you say - we call it a simulator and for realism you drive from inside. Outside views allow you to see everything around you in an un-natural way, including seeing around corners. If that's your 'game', then please find another group to hang out with. If you want realism, stay with us. We will do the best we can.

Q. Anybody got any settings?

A. Don't come in and ask for settings. Figure out your own. Too many people come in to get settings and then leave. Visitors often share their settings with us, and sometimes we do the same if we have anything to offer. At least come in and drive for awhile. Let the drivers choose whether they want to share their set up with you.

Q. Do you have a forum?

A. No. The MetroFactor form has been removed permanently. The labour involved to keep it running and free from less than ideal parties is not worth the expense and time involved.

Q. Are we ever going to race?

A. We welcome everyone who wants to join in, but go with the flow, don't state in a saucy manner - practise again - when are we going to race - and so on. We often practise throughout the week, and sometimes run 'test' races. It takes hours of driving practise and setup tweaking to get ready for each track.

Q. Do you use TeamSpeak?

A. Because our numbers are small we have been using Skype. We have been experimenting with TeamSpeak and may adopt it as our numbers increase since that is the most popular communications program for online activities.
