Worst Christmas Ever 2007

Christmas 2007 is the worst Christmas I will ever have, for I am missing the most important person in my life. Reflection offers some excellent everlasting memories which nothing can ever take away.  At the same time, the joy of the season is gone forever, even though the true meaning of Christmas still remains.

As I was thinking back over the years gone by, I suddenly realized that Rose and I had never ever been away from each other for any Christmas or New Year. I was always fortunate enough to be able to arrange my shifts and work routines to be with her.

Few things last forever, and this was the year things changed. I tried to write a short poem, but it stalled after three paragraphs:

Even though everything is ready
Christmas won't be Christmas this year
There won't be very much joy or happiness
Cause I am all alone and don't have you near.

The decorations have been put in place
Nearly the same as you have done each and every year
But it will never be the same
Its like Christmas without any of the cheer.

I told you many times you were my everything
I told my friends and everybody I knew
That you were the reason for my existance
And all the things I do were because of my love for you.

Searching through my files for some assistance I came across this little gem which someone had sent me shortly after her passing.

In Our Hearts
We thought of you with love today
But that is nothing new
We thought about you yesterday
And days before that too
We think of you in silence
We often speak your name
Now all we have are memories
And your picture in a frame
Your memory is our keepsake
With which we'll never part
God has you in his keeping
We have you in our hearts.

That fit so perfectly, it was almost my daily routine. But it wasn't quite enough. After more research, this time on the internet, I came across this piece from 1984. It says exactly what is in my heart!

Merry Christmas Darling
Frank Pooler, Richard Carpenter (c) 1984

Greeting cards have all been sent
The Christmas rush is through
But I still have one more wish to make
A special one for you

Merry Christmas Darling
We're apart that's true
But I can dream and in my dreams,
I'm Christmas-ing with you.

Holidays are joyful
There's always something new
But every day's a holiday
When I'm near to you

The lights on my tree
I wish you could see
I wish it every day
The logs on the fire
fill me with desire
To see you and to say

That I wish you a merry Christmas
Happy New Year, too
I've just one wish
on this Christmas Eve
I wish I were with you
I wish I were with you
